Grayscale Research Top 3 Digital Asset Insights
Each quarter, Grayscale Research conducts a comprehensive analysis of hundreds of digital assets to support the rebalancing of the FTSE Grayscale Crypto Sector Index Series. Through this process, the team identifies a Top 20 list of digital assets that represent key trends and potential opportunities across the crypto sector. These assets reflect diversified exposure and are evaluated based on network growth, user adoption, upcoming catalysts, fundamental sustainability, token valuation, inflation rate, and tail risk potential.
In the most recent quarter, Grayscale has shown growing optimism toward application-layer blockchain assets, particularly those with non-speculative real-world use cases. For Q2 2025, Grayscale focuses on three major areas: tokenization of real-world assets (RWA), decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN), and tokenized intellectual property (IP).
1. Maple (SYRUP): Redefining Institutional DeFi Lending
Maple is a DeFi protocol targeting the institutional credit market, operating through a dual-platform structure: the Maple Institutional Platform (for accredited investors) and Syrup.fi (for native DeFi users). The protocol’s total value locked (TVL) has surpassed $600 million, with a 30-day annualized network revenue of approximately $20 million. Maple aims to increase Syrup.fi’s TVL to $2 billion in 2025, and expand its reach by integrating with other protocols like Pendle and strengthening collaborations with traditional financial institutions (TradFi).
2. Geodnet (GEOD): High-Precision DePIN Infrastructure
Geodnet is a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) focused on delivering high-precision real-time positioning data. As a global leader in RTK networks, it provides centimeter-level geospatial data, serving industries such as agriculture, autonomous vehicles, and robotics. With over 14,000 deployed devices across 130 countries, Geodnet generated over $3 million in annualized network revenue in the past 30 days—a 500% year-over-year increase. While GEOD currently has a relatively low market cap and limited exchange availability, its strong fundamentals and utility-driven growth suggest significant long-term potential, albeit with higher risk.
3. Story (IP): Pioneering the Tokenization of Intellectual Property
Story aims to tokenize the $70 trillion global intellectual property (IP) market. In the era of AI, proprietary IP is increasingly used to train models, raising concerns about copyright infringement and legal disputes—such as The New York Times lawsuit against OpenAI. By bringing IP on-chain, Story enables companies to monetize usage in AI training, while allowing individuals to invest in, trade, and earn royalties from tokenized IP. Story has already onboarded music assets from Justin Bieber and BTS, and officially launched its IP-focused blockchain and token ecosystem in February.
